On
July 18, 2009, the Friendship Force of Western Kentucky celebrated its 30th
Anniversary. Over 65 individuals attended. Groups
represented included the FFWK members, visiting inbound exchange guests from
FF Birmingham, AL, local prospective members, and the Louisville FF
delegation of Karen Henson, Freda Nicholson, Margarette Perkins, Karen Foreman
and Cheryl & Chris Kinberger.
This
event was held on the grounds of
Western Kentucky Botanical Gardens in Owensboro. Members gathered
in the
Welcome Center to enjoy meeting friends, old acquaintances, new friends and
sharing exchange stories. An assortment of delicious liquid
refreshments, hor d'oeuvres & delicacies were served.
At
the start
of the official program,
Dietra Paris spoke about the importance of the Friendship Force and its mission.
Next, Sue
Hawkins presented a timetable of important moments in FFWK's beginning
history. Other members including former
Exchange Directors gave brief accounts of working with the Carters and
former Governor Martha Layne Collins on exchanges in the early years of
Western Kentucky's 30 year history. President Marsha Mullins read
aloud congratulatory letters from Louisville Co-Presidents John & Jeannie
Vezeau and from FFI President George Brown.
The current Ambassadors from
Birmingham and their Home Hosts were
introduced. They all appreciated the warm welcome they have received.
Birmingham ED Tom Laggy thanked the Owensboro members for their hard work and
hospitality.

The members from Louisville had a
great time and appreciate the invitation to participate in this memorable
event.
We look forward to enjoying the company of the FFWK members on future
collaborations and exchanges.
