Wine & Cheese - Bill Boland

Our June "Special Event" was an International Wine and Cheese Tasting Party.  This gathering took place on June 18th at the Coach Gate Condominiums Club House.  As our organization's motto is "Changing the Way You See the World," this event was certainly a good way to expand our knowledge and appreciation for the foods and drinks in other countries while learning about their cultures and their preferences.

Led by Bill Boland, owner of Evergreen Liquors in Middletown (Rose's son-in-law), we sampled five international wines, one each from Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and Germany.  Bill offered his insight, experience and business knowledge to explain in simple terms about each wine.  They were all excellent quality wines and inexpensive (in the $9 to $12 range).  Bill also provided a background story for each of the wines ... and he also gave the group of 21 FFLK members some valuable tips on how to buy and taste a wide range of wines.  There was a lively question-and-answer session throughout the evening.

To provide some extra fun we tested members' knowledge about each of the five countries.  At the end of the evening, we reviewed the answers and awarded bottles of wine to those who correctly answered the most questions.

The evening was a great success because of all those people who brought interesting cheese selections and appetizers. There were international award winning cheeses and fancy cheese preparations. Of course, people brought some delicious home-baked desserts ... without which we really wouldn't know we were having an FFLK event!

Thanks also to Sherry Farson for arranging the use of the Coach Gate Club House for our event location and all the members who attended.  All this for only a $5.00 fee!  Aren't we fortunate to have dedicated members who can organize and participate in such events?

And if you were not able to attend, we did miss you ... and we can assure you that all FFLK members were in our thoughts during this wonderful evening.
