|
This article will give a brief overview of the locations we visited within China. For more detail information and many photos, read the "Nanjing Cultural Exchange and China Diaries articles.
There were 17 members joining us for the trip to China:
Rose Lowry Duke, Darlene Eubanks, Karen Foreman, Karen Hitchcock, Jaclyn
Howard, Cheryl & Chris Kinberger, Rosemary Melloy, June Mills, Alice &
George Moore, Mary Lou & Pete Peters, Martha Swartz, Nan Upton, and
Bill & Eirlys Wilkes. Then by coach to Nanjing, site of our homestay (Nanjing Cultural Exchange). After a successful homestay in Nanjing it was short flight to Wuhan and a long coach ride to Yichang, site of our departure for the river cruise. Up the Yangtze River to Chongqing with another coach ride to Xi'an. The last of our cities was Beijing, capital of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and host to the 2008 Summer Olympics. During our stay June Mills had an unfortunate incident where she became entangled in a computer cord in the hotel business center, fell and injured her arm. Hotel personnel saw to her injuries and comfort, but June missed the Forbidden City and the excursion to the Great Wall. She is home now and recovering well. The weather during the trip was almost rain free with partly cloudy to clear skies. Temperatures were mild, being cool in the mornings to quite warm on most afternoons. This trip to China can only be considered a great success. Rosemary Melloy & Darlene Eubanks did a marvelous job. We can only hope that our future travels will be as successful.
